After realizing that actually getting the textbook for my FEM course is a good idea, I went online to look for the book at the UW bookstore. The book is: Hutton, D.V. Fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis, 1st Edn. McGraw-Hill Higher Education. I found it online at the bookstore here for $140 CAD. If I where to pay this much for a text in each of my classes, I'd pay $840 CAD! I honestly wouldn't mind paying a little for my textbooks - but these prices are ridiculous. It seems that the textbook manufacturers feel very strongly that knowledge shouldn't be free.
I decided to dig a little deeper. I found the book online at google books and at another website both of which do not require any membership fees. I'm glad that the people at google also agree that knowledge should be free :)
