Post One. If your looking for quality reading material.. turn back. This is my pent-up rage releasing itself. I'll take it one day at a time. Well, future posts may bring light to past events (including this one), but I'll start with Tuesday, October 31st, my old man's birthdate. <- This way, it's not nessecary to celebrate it over halloween, as often happened in my youth.
I'm not going to complain about the language barrier i created by studing here. I'm not going to complain about the extra paperwork that needed to be done. I'm not even going to complain about the re-orientation that i had to experience, learning where all the classes and proffesors are, and the new-city orientation aswell. These are the expected, and even welcomed challenges.
...
However...
After studing for my first test yesterday until 12am, I woke up 5am... ur, my roommate woke me up at 5am; he starts work at 7am; the commute is long. After he left at 6am, and the darkess started disappearing outside, i couldn't fall asleep again, and continued my studies. I was a little.. ur.. I was uneasy about this test; it was my first here in Poland, and after a failed attempt yesterday to contact the proffesor and there where some terms which i was uncertain of their translation into english.
My grandma phoned, and told me that she's going to visit some friends, so tomorrow (it being the holiday here in Poland for all that have passed away). She asked if I was taking any pictures. I said no. I didn't have the courage to tell her that I had lost my camera a while ago. I went to get dressed; but I had to check my shirts - my last wash was done in a sleepy state, and the shirts came out with spots.
I went to the test-room, and started writing. It was going quite well, most of the answers I had memorized; even though I wasn't exactly sure of the meaning, I had them memorized. I handed back my test early enough to take out a library book and come back for the second half of class. Nearing the end of class, the prof joked about some of the answers to the questions, "for this symbol, which means surface roughness, Ra=10um, someone even wrote that it means surface roughness, achieved my addition of material!" That person was I, exactly as prescribed by my notes.
After Machine design, I trotted off to.. Production Techniques. We had a new teacher today. He spoke even faster than the previous, using the same quiet tone, and writing less on the board. The class goes like this: we are to write/draw whatever the teacher descripes, in preparation for a quiz on this material and the material from the previous class. This quiz happens at the end of the class. It brought a little smile to my stomach when the students sitting beside me looked on to my page to find out what the professor just said; the could not keep up with him. I didn't get EVERYTHING either, however.
After, I went and ate lunch, and returned to rez. Being on bad terms with my current roomie, (which i moved to since I was on bad terms with my previous roomies) I didn't say a word to him, while changing the books in my backpack to partial differential equations.
On the way, I checked my marks from the previous quizzes from Production Techniques. Todays marks where up aswell. The first quiz (which I didn't cheat on - before realizing this was an impossibility to do while simultaneously passing on these quizzes) I received a 1.2/2 on. The other 2 quizzes (last week's and this week's) had lines, and no marks - meaning I either wasn't present, or didn't hand in a test.
Partial differential equations was another class which, if you don't keep up with what the teach says then good luck deciphering his hyroglyphics on the board. However, while he dictated questions, I could copy down every 3rd word (for some reason when my brain is feels wrapped in rubber bands, it can't process polish at the same speed as english). Now, I'll bubbly spend the next 40 minutes deciphering somebody else's chicken scratch, so i can have a full copy of today's notes.
Oh.. and on monday, I recieved an email from Lynn Crema, Undergrad advisor for Mechanical Engineering at UW (univerisity of Waterloo). My work report is still sitting on her desk, and I should come pick it up. It's been there for a quite a few weeks, I've received a "resubmit" as a mark, and the deadline for resubit's is coming up. She told me all this nice information from her nice, warm, 2nd floor office at the UW campus, in Canada.
Nothing serious. Everything can be easily solved. Except, I have 9 classes here, instead of 6, and I'm already behind with my regular work.
Happy "swieto zmarłych." Sometimes, I quite feel like joining them.
